Mint Chocolate Chip is my go-to ice cream flavor (specifically, Turkey Hill is my favorite). So, obviously I was going to try a homemade ice cream recipe for it.
I originally found this recipe on Serving Ice Cream. Each time I made it, I tried slight alterations, resulting in the recipe below. If you’re looking for a great homemade ice cream resource check them out. I have almost all of their recipes marked to try in the future.

Ingredient Notes
Make sure that you are using peppermint extract, not mint extract. They are not the same thing! When adding the extract, start with a smaller amount and taste it. You can use as little or as much as you’d prefer. I personally like to use about 1 tsp, but I always taste test it and do whatever I’m liking in the moment.
I’ve used both whole milk and 2% milk for this recipe. I did not notice a different taste, or have issues with mixing with either option.
You do not have to add food coloring, but I prefer the green color. This is another moment where you should only add a little bit at first. It may take a few minutes to mix in, so be patient. You can add more drops at any point.
I have only used mini chocolate chips when making my homemade ice creams. Some recipes say that you can use regular size, but I don’t think they will work with the paddle in my ice cream maker.
Equipment/Tools
I use a Cuisinart Ice Cream maker that I received as a Christmas gift last year. Check out my review and thoughts on it here. If you don’t have an ice cream maker, you can still make homemade ice cream. I have not tried that, but head to the Serving Ice Cream and you’ll find instructions on how to do it.
No matter what method you use, I highly recommend storage containers to store your ice cream in. I found a pack of two containers on Amazon, and I love them. And, they’re dishwasher safe (top rack)!

Final Tips for Making Mint Chocolate Chip
Depending on the mixer you use, you may notice that some of the ice cream builds up on top of the paddle, especially around the edges. I take a spatula and get it into the rest of the mixture if this happens. For me, it always happens, but I find it best to wait until the ice cream begins to thicken to get the spatula out.
In total, I have my mint chocolate chip ice cream churning for about ten minutes. But, this will vary based on the machine you are using, the ingredients, how cold the bowl is, and the temperature and humidity of your kitchen.
