If you’ve never seen Grease 2, then you are missing out. Don’t be fooled though- this movie is not even close to the original that we know and love. However, I love this movie. It’s outrageous, horrible, and funny all at once. And yet, no one talks about it.
I wanted to start a new series on my blog talking about bad movies that I genuinely love. I couldn’t think of a better movie to begin this series. Grease 2 is the perfect example of a movie that is just plain bad, but that makes it great.
The Release of the Movie
Grease 2 was not well received, mainly because critics said it was a ‘bad remake’ of the original film. Which, is a fair assessment. (This article on Screen Rant sums it up pretty well.) But that’s why it’s great. It’s like the younger sibling that tries to be you- they can’t be identical to you, so they say ‘f this’ and focus on having fun instead.
It is strange that not all of my friends know of the existence of this movie, or if they know, they haven’t watched it. It came out in 1982, 4 years after the original. You’d think the hype or excitement would still exist.

The Cast of Grease 2
The cast does have a couple of big players. Michelle Pfieffer stars as the leading lady. Didi Conn returns playing Frenchie, who is back in high school (strange plot point but that’s just part of the experience).
Eve Arden (Principal McGee), Dody Goodman (Blanche), and Sid Caesar (Coach Calhoun) also return in their previous roles. And Tab Hunter, who according to my Grandma, “was quite the heartthrob” in the 1950s, plays Mr. Stuart, the new biology teacher. (Yes, my Grandma did actually say that when she first watched this movie with me.)

Awards
Yes, this movie was nominated for 3 awards. Check out the film’s IMDB page if you don’t believe me. It was nominated for “Worst Picture” in The Stinkers Bad Movie Awards in 1982. I’m still a little shocked to find out that was a very real thing, and the lists of other nominees is kind of funny.
In the 1983 Young Artist Awards the film was nominated for “Best Family Feature- Animated, Musical, or Fantasy.” Sadly, it lost to E.T. (which, ok, I get it.) And Michelle Pfeiffer was up for the “Best Young Motion Picture Actress Award,” which she lost to Aileen Quinn from Annie.

My Movie Ranking
Grease 2 is a movie that you watch and can visibly see the cast and crew having fun while making it. With musical numbers titled, “Reproduction,” “Let’s Do It For Our Country,” and “Score Tonight,” how could they not have fun? You can’t watch the video below and not laugh, roll your eyes, or say OMG (perhaps you do all three).

I absolutely love this movie. It’s infectious energy almost makes me prefer it over the original (I know, I know). Grease 2 may not have won any real awards, but it a 10/10 rating from me.
