In this week’s episode of Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, we lived through the final day of Bunny’s life.
*There will be spoilers for season 2, episode 3 “The Last Day of Bunny Folger” in this review.
“The Last Day of Bunny Folger”
There wasn’t a lot of Steve Martin, Martin Short, or Selena Gomez in this episode, but, it was full of insights into Bunny’s life. Up until this point, we only saw her as a mean old lady. She’s the controlling president of the building’s board. A position, which she inherited from her mother. Now, we see how dedicated she is to maintaining the building’s prestige. (remember, her grandfather was the building’s architect)
Did the pregnant protégé make a pernicious power play?
Oliver Putnam (Martin Short)
Overall, this episode focused more on making Nina, the new board president, appear responsible for Bunny’s death. We know Bunny had a change of heart and decided she wasn’t ready to step down, but do we really think Nina is guilty? She’s almost ready to give birth, and the murderer shown in the shadows at the end of the episode doesn’t appear to be a pregnant woman.
Since we only saw shadows, not the people themselves, there’s a chance it could be Nina, but I doubt it. You also see Bunny fall forward after being stabbed the first time, and we see the assailant holding her up while continuing to stab her. Between that, and having to position Bunny upright and stage the scene for Mabel to take the fall… I just don’t believe Nina is the guilty one. She’s just the obvious one at this point.
My Theories
So at this point, who do you think the murderer is? Personally, I think her mother killed her as a result of Bunny yelling and hanging up on her that afternoon. Bunny’s mother was previously the board president. And I think that it being Bunny’s final day of being president is a piece of the puzzle. And, her mother would have known about the secret elevator and could get out of the building undetected. Bunny probably had the keys to all the apartments (or at least access to the keys) and would explain how she got into Mabel’s apartment. Initially I thought that the secret elevator could be used to get both in and out of the building, but Bunny opens the apartment door and finds her killer. They didn’t come from her bedroom.
However, I also think Uma could be the killer for 1 simple reason. The painting was not over Bunny’s bed when she woke up that morning. It was on a wall above her dresser. But in the previous episode, Uma claims it should have been above the bed. No matter who the real killer is, the getting the painting is the motive. Thoughts?

The Foul-Mouthed Parrot
Last week, the episode ended on a huge cliffhanger – Bunny’s parrot saying “I know who did it.” Unfortunately, the parrot, Mrs. Gambolini, was just repeating a line from a tv show that Bunny was watching right before being killed. I hope the parrot remains a constantly swearing presence on-screen for the entire season.
When the parrot was first introduced, I got so excited because the overall concept of a parrot who swears like a sailor is amazing. But, even more so for personal reasons. My great-great-grandfather took in a parrot from a sick friend. And the parrot had quite a mouth. One day a Catholic priest was over the house, and the parrot got a little chatty with the priest. I think you can imagine what happened there.
So, just for that personal reason, I had high expectations, which probably were not entirely fair. Even now, years later, I can hear my grandfather telling the story and doing his best impression of the parrot.
