Screwed Up is Harloe Rae’s newest book, and it’s a part of The Bayside Heroes series. Written by Kandi Steiner, Harloe Rae, K.K. Allen, and Tia Louise, The Bayside Heroes is a series of 4 interconnected, stand-alone, romance novels. Each Monday in December, one book is released.
Screwed Up is the first book in the series that I’m reading, but I will be reviewing the other three books in January (once Blogmas is over and I’ve taken a week off!). I already have Washed Up on my Kindle thanks to Kindle Unlimited, and I can’t wait to dive in.

Initial Thoughts
Each time I review a book, I try not to have too many expectations or hopes for it prior to reading. That was especially easy to do with Screwed Up, since it isn’t a part of any other series, and all new characters are introduced. Everything that I knew about the book was it was an opposites attract, no strings story featuring a doctor and security guard.
I’m a sucker for opposites attract stories. But, no strings attached themes are not my favorite. But, Dane and Larson grabbed my attention from the beginning, and it only got better. Dane is an angel. He’s the guy that’s too good to be real. He’s so kind and generous (in more ways than one), and it was easy to join Team-Dane.
Not that I wasn’t Team-Larson! Larson Belle is just as realistic. She’s stubborn, sassy, and incredibly intelligent. She’s also caring and goes out of her way to help her patients and coworkers. Her brutal honesty is refreshing, and while she may feel insecure, she doesn’t let it show and lets her bold side takeover. (Something I need to learn to do!)
Final Verdict on Screwed Up
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. While it’s not my favorite Harloe Rae book, it would be hard to top Breaker or There’s Always Someday in my mind. But, I would still love to know more about Larson and Dane. I would happily read 100 pages of a conversation over dinner if I got to know the characters and their world more.
Screwed Up could absolutely have a second part to it. When I first heard it would involve a doctor and security guard, I had a feeling there would be at least one mention of ‘class differences’ or ‘the lowly security guard.’ And while there was, there is a lot more that could be explored, especially in their future relationship. I’d also love to learn more about Dane and why he is a security guard. How did he end up there?
As for Larson, I want to know if her parents actually change. Or was that just an act because they were in a public place where Larson essentially had the upper hand? So many questions! Basically, Harloe Rae please DM some answers or write more!
