Are you one of the people that’s constantly looking to save money on gifts during that second or third week in December? You know, when time is running out to get the best gifts? Here are my tips and how I personally save money during the holiday season.
Prep for 2023 Begins Early
When it comes to preparation for the future holidays, I’ve always been ahead when it comes to buying gifts. Even if I don’t know everyone or everything on my list, if I see something I know someone would love, I get it. Depending on the item, waiting for sales or coupons may not be practical. Or, it may cost you more money in the long run.
If you see multiple things for 1 person, get them all. But instead of giving them all as a gift that year, save items for the years ahead. You may spend a little bit more money now, but if for two years you don’t need to spend anything for that person, it’s worth it.

Getting Basic Supplies Now
When holiday clearance hits, don’t sleep on it! Right after Christmas is the best time to stock up on essential items like gift bags, wrapping paper, and blank cards. If you know you’ll need it, why pay more next year when you can get it so much cheaper now? This would also apply to things like trees, ornaments, or other decor.

Don’t Set A Strict Budget
Setting a strict budget may be helpful for some people, but it doesn’t work for everyone. Even for something like a secret Santa where everyone spends $50 is too restricting. First of all, you shouldn’t put a dollar amount on gifts like that. But more importantly, you may find someone the perfect gift for only $10, and the perfect item for someone else may cost more. So does that mean you’ll pass on two great gifts and continue to shop around? No! That’s just a waste of time, plain and simple.
I’m not saying start recklessly spending. But, be flexible. Otherwise you’ll spend more time shopping and less time enjoying the holiday season.
