Today is National Pet Day! If you have a furry friend, be sure to give them some extra treats today! To celebrate the four-legged friends in our lives, I’m going to share items that all dog owners should have to make their lives easier.

The Basic Must Haves
One of the most important items to have for your dog is a poop bag holder. You can get them relatively cheap on Amazon, and they make things so much easier. Here is one that clips right onto your leash, so you always have it. If you happen to need a laugh or an eyeroll, go and check out the reviews on that one. Trust me.
I also recommend getting some wipes for your dog. We use wipes on Oliver all the time to help keep his fur white in between baths. If you’re looking for a quicker cleanup option, this paw cleaner has been on best-sellers lists for years. Unfortunately, my dogs hate having their paws touched, so there’s no way they’d allow me to use this. But, I’ve heard nothing but good things about this product.
The last ‘basic’ must have item that I want to share today is this Nature’s Miracle Advanced Stain and Odor Eliminator. As much as you try to avoid it, accidents will happen. This is one of the best carpet cleaners for pet stains- and we’ve tried a lot. We’ve had lots of accidents in our home. From Charlie and Oliver marking all over the place, Charlie’s old age, Oliver being spiteful, or Rosie having bladder stones, we’ve done lots of carpet cleaning over the years.
Health
*None of the following is professional medical advice. These are simply my own thoughts and experiences.*
If your pet is not on a flea & tick medication or a heartworm preventative, get them to the vet, pronto! These are absolute must-haves for pets. There are a lot of options out there to choose from, such as Frontline. Personally, this is something that I always get from my vet. They know my dogs’ needs, and I simply do not know enough to choose a product. If cost is a concern, almost all of those products do have rebates that you can submit for online.
These ProSense calming tablets are great for anxious dogs like Rosie. She had a rough start in life, so she gets nervous easily, especially when we first adopted her. Primarily, we give these to her before thunderstorms or before we have a lot of people over. Storms still terrify her (she usually sits in someone’s lap on the floor or under a table), but these do make a noticable difference. If you have an anxious dog, these are definitely worth a shot.
Home Items
One of the fun parts of getting your newly adopted pet home is all of the fun things you get to buy for your home. Of course, this is where the price can really build up. I mean, have you seen how expensive some of those fancy pet beds are? I love my dogs, but that money is better spent on their vet bills! However, there is one item that I would love to splurge on.
The Furbo dog camera is such a cool idea. As someone whose pets don’t live with me, it’s difficult to feel connected to them. With this item, you can talk to your dog, and have the device toss your pet a treat. If no one is at home and a storm occurs, we can turn on Rosie’s preferred music (mainly symphonies by Mozart) through Alexa. This, would take that to a whole other level, since you can see what is happening at home.
I’m not entirely sure how Rosie would react to the Furbo. She knows the voice for the Alexa device, because it plays her music. I’m honestly really eager to find out how it would go!
The Furbo does require an Alexa device. So, if you’ve been wanting one but haven’t gotten it yet, now is the time to grab both items!
And, while doing some research and browsing for this post, I also came upon a more budget friendly camera option.
Finally, the last item I want to talk about today is BarkBox. You’ve probably already heard of this, but BarkBox is a subscription box service. Each month your box contains 1 dental chew, 2 bags of treats, and 2 toys, all based on your dog’s size. Especially if you are a new pet owner, BarkBox is a must have. It will save you some trips to the pet store, and help you learn your dog’s taste and toy preferences very quickly!
