Over the past few weeks, Christmas music has been playing everywhere. So, now that we’ve all had time to get reacquainted with holiday music, I wanted to share what my top 5 Christmas songs of all time are.
The Best Songs
“A Holly Jolly Christmas” by Burl Ives
This song, is a classic. Burl Ives’ voice just sounds like Christmas, and, based on the comments in the video I linked above, people agree with me.
“Let It Snow!” by Frank Sinatra (ft. the B. Swanson Quartet)
Fun fact about this song? It was written during a heat wave in the early 1940s. You know, when all you can do is imagine what winter feels like? (Or if you’re me, ask God to turn off the Sun and send a nice blizzard my way) That fact just makes me like this song even more now- it’s literally a musical version of me. There’s been multiple covers of this song. But, the most famous one is by Frank Sinatra and the Swanson Quartet. The video I linked is a “newer version.” The song is the same, but, it has a cute animated video with it that has a sort of modern claymation vibe. And, if you want to have some smiles, laughs, or just groan and shake your head, read through the comments. Trust me, there are some gems in there.

“Christmas Wrapping” by The Waitresses
If you’ve ever worked in retail during the holidays, this is your song. Last year, I’d hear this while driving home from work and just think, “Yup. Me, literally me.” While this is a song that is pretty negative, it’s a great song because it’s catchy, but truthful.
“Dominick the Donkey” by Lou Monte
Overall, this is just a fun song and I don’t know why someone wouldn’t like it. This was a song in the holiday playlist at work a few years ago, and I would get so excited every time it played. Until that point, I don’t think I had heard it anywhere other than my kitchen. So, it was a weird but fun experience.
“O Holy Night” by Josh Groban
This Christmas song is different from the other ones on this list, because it’s a very religious song. Generally, Christmas Carols can be sorted into two categories- Religious or Commercial. This song, “O Holy Night,” is by far my favorite religious Christmas song. There are sisters at my parents’ church that sing this every Christmas, and they’re amazing. Like, give you chills amazing.

Honorable Mentions
“Last Christmas” by Wham!
Somehow, I’ve never seen the music video for this song. After watching it, all I can say is, wow. The 1980s really were a wild time, huh?
Michael Buble’s Christmas Album
My favorite all-around holiday album. Also, I love this disney Christmas album we have at home. Yes, I still like listening to it. At one point, in the “12 Days of Christmas,” Goofy sings ‘5 onion rings’ instead of golden rings. Enough said?
This is a great compilation for studying during the winter. That Youtube channel specifically has so many great compilations for different seasons and fandoms. So, if you’re a geek and want some new background music, check it out!

Christmas Songs I Can Not Stand
Obviously, if I’m telling you about my favorites I have to mention the songs that drive me crazy.
“All I Want For Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey
OK, don’t freak out on me. For me, the first few times I hear this song in the beginning of December, I like it. It’s one of those grab your hairbrush and dance around in front of your mirror type songs. But, once the novelty wears off, it’s similar to the Small World song. It just never stops.
“Jingle Bells” by Barbra Streisand
I only heard this version of the classic “Jingle Bells” for the first time a few years ago. One day while running around at work, it played throughout the store. And suddenly, my anxiety level began to rise, and I eventually had an anxiety attack. I wonder if I’d heard it for the first time outside of work if I would have had the same reaction. My advice? If you are prone to generalized anxiety, or anxiety during the holidays, skip this song. Trust me.

I hope you all have a great weekend! Let me know in the comments what you think of my picks! Or, let me know if there is a song I overlooked when ranking my songs.
